Can Celebrity Cook Books Make You a Better Person
I can cook OK as long as I only have to cook with one pot or pan! So I can cook a mean chilly , fish pie, Paella and chilli con carne. Many of us are talented when it comes to cooking but some of us haven’t got a clue how to cook so I suppose I fall into the haven't got a clue category. That is one reason why people like me have to purchase cooking books . Cooking is like an art the more you cook the better you get and in the beginning it is like anything else in life practice makes perfect.
When cooking it is important to have an idea on how much ingredients you need to have. So I always measure things out in advance just like they do on the TV. However did you know that apparently even the meats and the vegetables needs to be cut in the right way to get a better taste out of the food. I was told that is necessary to cut the chicken, lamb and vegetables in a right way so they taste better. I'm not sure if this is a old wife's tale, but thinking logically I suppose it might be true especially if you consider the grain of the materiel. What I am trying to say is that maybe it will be easier to chew and will be tender if you cut along the grain of the meat.
So back to original title can a book help you become a better cook and also a more knowledgeable person? I bought a basic Thai recipe cook book last month just to learn how to make a Thai green curry. First dish I made tasted OK but I wanted it to taste like how it tasted when I was out in Thailand. So I searched high a low and eventually found a recipe in amongst a celebrity cook book and surprise surprise it was written by Keith Floyd
While reading the Keith Floyd cook book it became apparent that it wasn't just about cooking, it was about culture, individuality, knowledge and history. So it wasn't long before I started reading a lot of other books and newspapers because of the so called celebrity cooking book. I never used to like reading cook books but now I am constantly searching in the local book shops and charity shops for cook books that have been written by a celebrity. Don't get me wrong I still think that your basic cook book is still useful.
Nevertheless I prefer the celebrity cook books as they do appear to be well travelled and therefore they are able to mix in more conversation along the way. Now lets be honest a recipe is pretty boring, but mix it in with some funny story or facts and it becomes something a little bit more educating and fun so I guess a celebrity cook book could make you a better person from a education plus knowledge point of view. Oh yes and it will also make you a better cook.
I love cooking but I find that one of the most frustrating thing about celebrity cookbooks is that the recipes often include ingredients that are either hard to find, expensive or would leave me with half used packets that I would not use again. In my opinion cookery is all about producing something that you enjoy eating.
